Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo impeached
Assembly members who supported the motion argued that the governor’s actions undermined the integrity of county offices.
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been removed from office after the County Assembly successfully passed a third impeachment motion against him.
Tuesday’s session ended with 23 MCAs voting in favour of the motion, while none opposed.

Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro said his office will now notify Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to commence the next steps in the process.
The impeachment motion, sponsored by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, accused the governor of abusing office and violating legal protocols in his administration.
Central to the motion are allegations stemming from Nyaribo’s role in the previous impeachment saga and his backing of a parallel assembly group, popularly known as “Bunge Mashinani,” led by former Speaker Enock Okero.
The motion notes that the governor “deliberately engaged, endorsed and supported an unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional ‘Bunge Mashinani’ gazette,” despite’s removal from office.
Matwere further described Nyaribo’s actions as a “relentless and calculated assault” on the Constitution.
The Bunge Mashinani faction had operated outside the official assembly chambers, conducting unauthorised sessions across the county.
Additional charges highlight irregular appointments of committee members in Keroka town and the illegal creation and approval of a Public Service Board appointment panel through the alternative assembly.
The governor also approved county funds to appoint Peris Nyaboke-Oroko as County Agriculture Minister during a period when assembly leadership was contested, a move criticised as outside legal channels.
Nyaribo had survived previous impeachment attempts in October 2023 and September 2024, when motions citing mismanagement, nepotism, and failure to follow statutory deductions narrowly failed.
